A Dose of MapleStory… (15): Thanks MapleSEA, now I look like a geek.

July 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

MapleSEA, for obvious reasons, celebrates the independence day of both Malaysia and Singapore, which fortunately, falls in the same month, August. Singapore celebrates its independence from Malaya on August 9, while Malaysia celebrates the auspicious day on the 31st of August.

Making good use of the “patriotism” citizens of both countries have in them instilled by their respective government, they would release different items (usually time limited, limited edition equipments) to celebrate the occasion every year for free. Last year (2008) MapleSEA gave us a face mask that looked like flags of the two countries. The year before (2007) they gave us a Malaysia/Singapore flag that is also a weapon. This year (2009), guess what they have given us for Merdeka day?

A pair of glasses.

Thanks MapleSEA. Now Tsusaka looks like a geek.

P.S: Congratulations MapleSEA for 1500 days.

Justice 4 Teoh Beng Hock

July 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Teo-Banner01

It has been sometime since this happened, but I’m going to do a post about it anyway since the death of dear Teoh Beng Hock has to be known by more people.

Teoh, a political secretary to Selangor’s Seri Kembangan state assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead outside the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) building, where he had most probably fell from the building. Teoh was taken under MACC’s custody for questioning pertaining to several cases of alleged abuse of constituency funds involving Selangor Pakatan assemblymen. As to how he died, suicide or murder, no one knows and the case is still under investigation.

As I am writing this, the Malaysian federal cabinet of the government has decided to hold a Royal Commission of Inquiry: it will be on the procedures (of MACC interrogations). Note something amiss? Well, unfortunately, the RCI does not include Teoh’s death in its investigation. Quoting The Star’s interview with Najib:

What will the Commission investigate?
It will be on the (MACC’s) procedures relating to its investigation, not the investigation on Teoh’s death and the normal investigations conducted by the MACC.

So far, various rallies and candlelight vigils have been organized, mainly by DAP together with the presence of Pakatan partners in the country. Most of the people who attended the rally believed that it is fishy Teoh was found dead outside the MACC. They also believed that Teoh couldn’t have committed suicide as he is set to register for marriage the next day. Later, it was revealed that late Teoh’s fiancee is 2 months pregnant with Teoh’s baby. There’s no reason for Teoh to commit suicide.

Probably every national political leader, including Ong Tee Keat, Chua Jui Meng, Anwar Ibrahim, Salahuddin Ayub, Khalid Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, Karpal Singh attended Teoh’s funeral. The funeral procession was joined by thousands of people from all walks of life, showing how Teoh’s death have shaken the country. Even Najib has send his condolence through the form of a flower ring and his political secretary, Oh Ei Sun.

Irresponsible people from the other end of the political divide (i.e. UMNO) has fully empowered the newspaper (e.g. Utusan Malaysia, Mingguan Malaysia) they own to give their readers a different story altogether, playing down Teoh’s death. Some alleging that it was DAP who killed Teoh, while some even mocked on with his death. Playing the racial cards by saying Teoh’s death was the opposition attacks and were aimed at blackening the reputation of Malays. This begs the question: since when has the MACC become a Malay constitution?

I recently left a comment at MCA Gombak’s faceboo where a question was posed: “Do you think the MACC is so silly to murder someone in front of their own office?”

My answer was: “I dun think MACC would be that silly to murder witnesses. However, it is their responsibility to protect anyone they detain for questioning and ensure their safety, or else they have NO rights whatsoever to detain anyone at all for whatever reasons.”

RIP Teoh Beng Hock.

My worst fear has come true: after Facebook and Youtube, now,Twitter is also blocked in STTSS.

Wow, that’s harsh censorship.

It’s just a matter of time before Blogspot gets block too. T_T

Edit: and yup, the direct link of this post too also gets blocked, lol. But I’m not changing it.

Chua Jui Meng another Froggie?

cjmeng

I refer to Jui Meng set to jump to PKR?

People are saying that Chua Jui Meng, who has lost twice trying to become the MCA president, is defecting to PKR. Rumors as they may be, however, Chua has already called for an emergency meeting in his Bakri division and has passed on his division chief post to his deputy. This means that the possibility of Chua actually defecting is actually quite high.

People are saying bad things and some are even telling PKR not to accept him.

However, if you ask me, PKR is filled with ex-BN members in its ranks. Examples include Saifudin Nasuton (Machang MP, ex-UMNO member), N. Gobalakrishnan (Padang Serai MP, ex-MIC member) and Lim Boo Chang (Penang Councillor, ex-MCA member). If you look at DAP, even Jeff Ooi was an ex-Gerakan member. Besides that, unlike Hee Yit Foong who jumped over as Jelapang ADUN from DAP to BN, Chua Jui Meng has quit all his post in MCA, bringing over to PKR nothing at all other than himself and a few supporters.

At least ex-members of BN conponent parties are able to better serve the people through PKR. If that is so, then I don’t see a problem defecting. It’s like a broken marriage – just divorce if you’re not happy with your husband or wife and it brings more happiness to both.

The conclusion is, I don’t see anything wrong with Jui Ming jumping ship to PKR. The Bakri parliamentary seat may already belong to DAP, but Jui Ming can always serve through other channel, e.g. becoming a councillor when PR gains control of Johor (which is highly unlikely), or contest a state seat. It’s up to him, actually. I don’t think anyone would blame him, if you ask me.

I’m In Teh School Library

July 16, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Trying not to get bored, that’s it. It’s pretty hard to get bored here: there are mangas just over this wall next to me (Slam Dunk ftw), plus, there are computers where I can use to go online. As a computer geek, I would prefer to go online rather than read mangas. In fact, I have never touched those mangas. The librarian would most of the time let me use computer no. 12 as it was the best available and I’ll be happy.

Using the computer at the school library to go online is a totally different experience than at to cyber cafes or at home. The atmosphere here is bright, cool, and quiet as well, just what would you expect from a typical library. However, there’s this downside – censorship is pretty harsh.

Youtube is blocked. MapleSEA’s website is blocked. Gamespot is blocked. Even Facebook is blocked. Besides that, any link that contains the word “game”, “sex”, “facebook”, “youtube”, etc are also blocked! This includes the following articles on The Malaysian Insider that I was trying to read:

- MCA headed for fierce split as sex tape scandal resurfaces
- Big game publishers muscle in on iPhone’s upstarts

Surfing these websites will link you back to the school’s website and a pretty straightforward message which unfortunately is grammatically mistaken will appear:

Not allow to surf this site!

Like this:

Untitled-1

See what I mean? Basically, this effect is on each and every computer in the school, which uses the school’s line to go online.

Nothing wrong about that, actually.

Dear – Hatsune Miku

This was the song that had obtained first place in the #91 Weekly Vocaloid Rankings. Listen to it. Well, amazing, isn’t it? I wouldn’t be able to tell you how amazing I felt when I listened to the song. I immediately felt refreshed after I had finished, and this is no exaggeration.

Just now when I first listened to the song, I had had the thought that I may have listened to the song somewhere before. Perhaps it could be some anime’s OP theme? Or was it some J-pop song sung by a famous J-pop singer like Ayumi Hamazaki? It was pretty familiar, after all.

I did a Google search and found that I was mistaken. No, it wasn’t any anime song, nor it was sung by any J-pop singer. In fact, accordingly, it’s an original Vocaloid song composed by 19’s Sound Factory. The song’s downloadable at their website: http://19soundfactory.web.fc2.com/, Since they provided the song for free over at the website, I downloaded the song right away, no question asked.

Okay, so, the fact is, I had listened to the song before, probably over at Youtube, sung by some male voice. I just never expected that it would leave such a strong impression on me that I thought that it might not be an original vocaloid song. The male voice might have been Kaito or some male vocaloids, but I don’t really care anymore now that I have known the source.
