Outrage Over School Uniform

December 10, 2008 · 2 Comments

Well, as most of you my readers should know, my school STTSS is going to have a change in its students’ school uniform and the below are the finalist in the uniform designing contest:

The results is out and it is decided that the blue ones, for both boys’ and girls’ uniform, would be the ones the students are going to wear. Compulsory for next year’s J1 and S1 students to change while J2, J3 and S2 can wait till 2010. And as if our school’s creativity is dead, we prefects are going to wear one of the yellow ones. =\

The reason the school insisted on adding some colour to the blouse (in this case from a semi-transparent white to blue) is because they say that the girls like to wear colour-bra which would distract guys in the school, both teachers and students.

The good news is, we’re not the only one changing our school uniform for the better. Even Japanese schools are doing the same for their students:

omguniform

An (nearly) all-girls Japanese school has implemented a plan where their female students have to wear “pantaloons” and now they would no longer be displaying their legs. Initially implemented due to the request by parents that their daughters were having “cold legs” when cycling to school, however now it seems like this were implemented to preserve the female students’ modesty, e.g. preventing their panties from being seen. In fact, around one-third of the students of the school cycle to school every day.

Quote:
“Sailor uniforms were originally the uniforms of sailors, they match any sort of trousers.”

Local papers soon reported the matter, and an outcry on the Internet arose. “They look like they’re in wartime, and it’s totally unfashionable.”

When it comes to the girls themselves, they are said to be of mixed opinion – some say they’d never wear them, whilst others thought it a good idea.
